CREEK UPDATE: Golf Bowl goes off without a hitch despite a rainy day

It was an incredibly busy week at Silver Creek Golf Club, as we welcomed our first major tournament of the 2017 season.

The annual “Golf Bowl” coordinated between Silver Creek and Sunset Bowl was an overwhelming success. Around 175 participants bowled on Friday and Saturday, following that up with an 18-hole round of golf in far-from-ideal conditions.

The rain came down throughout the day, but more than half of the field stayed out to complete their full-round.

The rain didn’t keep some teams from posting incredible scores. An 11-under, 60 won the golf side of the event.

A huge ‘thank you’ to our crew at Silver Creek who kept the course primed throughout the week, even as rain dominated the forecast. Silver Creek Golf Club Superintendent Paul Clark, and his team, spent several rainy days — including Friday — out on the course getting it ready for players to enjoy on Saturday.

Thanks to their long-term efforts to maximize drainage throughout the course, standing water has been held to a minimum — even on the rainiest of days.

We’d also like to thank Sunset Bowl for participating in an event like this — which delivers for both bowlers and golfers. The event, which many turn into a two-day affair — is the result of extensive planning from a core group of individuals who make this possible each-and-every year.

Partnerships like the one with Sunset Bowl — are the kind that make doing business and playing golf in the Finger Lakes fun.

This week looks a little drier. The weather is expected to remain chilly throughout the week, but that won’t stop our dedicated leagues from getting out and playing golf.

A reminder to those who participate in leagues: If you’re uncertain whether your league is going to play — or if they’re going to “rain out” contact your league president or secretary for a decision on play.

Unless the course is dealing with a “flooding” situation, or there is thunder or lightning in the area — play is not restricted.

That’s why week-to-week decisions on play are left to league managers.
