A new club champion has been named at Silver Creek Golf Club in Waterloo.
George Mander captured his first club championship over the weekend, edging out Josh Durso — carding at two-day total of 145.
Things appeared to be going Mander’s way when he holed out for eagle on the 7th hole from 105 yards out. Teeing off on the 9th hole, Mander’s Rd. 1 lead of one stroke, had swelled to five strokes.
Durso would make a push, cutting the lead back down to one — before Mander sealed the victory with strong pars on 16, 17, and 18.
Mander has had a long-history of steady success at Silver Creek — most-recently finishing second in 2016’s Club Championship.
Mander carded a 1-over 72 in Rd. 2, beating out his Rd. 1 score by a single stroke.
On the women’s side of the action — Danielle Roetting added to her legacy — collecting another club championship. She fired a two-day total of 169 — carding an 89 and 80 over the weekend.
Eric Brace, a longtime member of Silver Creek Golf Club — collected his first club championship in the senior division. In a dramatic finish, Brace sunk a long putt — edging out Rd. 1 leader Thomas “Sully” Scattaglia for the senior championship. Brace carded a 75 and 74 — compared to Scattaglia’s 72 and 79.
John “LJ” Siblosky fired a 95 and 96 — giving him the title of Junior Club Champion at Silver Creek Golf Club.
